Expressive Arts
"For The Artist In Each of Us"
At times words escape the ability to express and process the human experience. By incorporating art into therapy, one can tap into this other world and process life in an unique way.
“Expressive arts therapy--the purposeful application of art, music, dance/movement, dramatic enactment, creative writing, and imaginative play--is a non-verbal way of self-expression of feelings and perceptions. More importantly, they are action-oriented and tap implicit, embodied experiences of trauma that can defy expression through verbal therapy or logic.”

Navigating the shift into Motherhood/Parenthood
In regards to moms and parenthood, the therapeutic work is centered around working together to explore any internalized beliefs about motherhood/becoming a parent, exploring the normal shift that is inherent in the transition to parenting, any unfulfilled beliefs or processing pregnancy loss, and offering a nonjudgmental space to express the full range of emotions that comes to being a parent.
Healing from Patriarchy
"We are all born into the prison of ancestral and collective trauma, designed by the patriarchal ethos"
-Valerie Rein
Patriarchy is a system that in it's design harms both men, women, trans-individuals, and non-binary folks. By acknowledging the ways that this system has become integrated into one's internalized beliefs (hustle culture, perfectionism, not feeling "enough", people pleasing)- then can we begin the journey of deconstructing and rebuilding the self in a way that is sustainable, allows for freedom, gives emotions the ability to flow freely, and develops a stronger sense identity.
Healing Centered Approaches
Trauma lives and is stored in both the body and the mind.
I once read that "pain moves through families until someone is ready to feel it". This can be true for experiencing collective and intergenerational trauma. This may look like the unspoken, the hurt, or the shunned parts of families. Part of trauma-informed therapy is processing this hidden trauma, as well as childhood trauma, racial trauma, gender trauma, or other experiences that invoke fear, distrust, and emotional chaos. In session, this may look like taking things slow, tuning in to younger parts of yourself, or acknowledging the hurt that comes from these experiences. Then moving through it to build a different relationship with these experiences.
